 INDIA DAY – AWARD GUIDELINES- 2022
AWARDS CATEGORIES AND ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA

 

1.  ACADEMIC HONORS AWARD
  • Elementary: A student must have a minimum 'A' grade or 80% or more in all four (4) core subjects (Language Arts, Social Studies, Mathematics, and Science)
  • Junior High: A student must receive a minimum 80% or more in all four (4) core subjects
    (Language Arts, Social Studies, Mathematics, and Science)
  • Senior High: A student must receive a minimum 80% or more in all four (4) core subjects
    (Language Arts, Social Studies, Mathematics, and Science)

Copy of transcript/report card of the final exam must be attached with the application


2. ACADEMIC EXCELLENCE AWARD

a. Junior High: Graduating students, who have maintained 80% or more in all four (4) core subjects (Language Arts, Social Studies, Mathematics, and Science) in each of the academic years (2019, 2020, and 2021) are eligible for this award.
b. Senior High: Graduating students, who have maintained 80% or more in all four (4) core subjects (Language Arts, Social Studies, Mathematics, and Science) in each of the academic years (2019, 2020, and 2021) are eligible for this award.
NOTE: Students, who are applying for Academic Excellence Award, do not apply for Academic Honors Award.
3. POST-SECONDARY ACHIEVEMENT AWARD
Undergraduate Students:
Minimum 3.5 GPA (out of 4) or equivalent on full course load for the last two academic terms.
Graduate Students:
Minimum 3.7 GPA (out of 4) or equivalent on full course load for the last two academic terms.
4. DISTINCTIVE ACHIEVEMENT AWARD
A student who has won distinction (1st, 2nd or 3rd prize) in Music, Drama, Debate, Mathematics and Science competition, Arts, Athletics, or any other extra-curricular field is eligible. The distinction must have been won in an open competition and must be at the municipal, provincial, or national level. Regular graduation from an institution or the obtaining of a high grade in itself, in any one of these fields, will not be considered sufficient for this award. Kumon and other equivalents will not be considered for the distinctive achievement. Copy of the certificate/award/prize and June 2021 transcript must be provided.

5. CISE EXEMPLARY CITIZENSHIP AWARD
A student who has i) displayed good citizenship, ii) done exemplary community services, and iii) obtained an average of at least 80% or more in all four (4) core subjects (Language Arts, Social Studies, Mathematics, and Science), are eligible.
The minimum GPA requirement for Post-Secondary students will be 3.5 GPA (out of 4) or equivalent and for Graduate students 3.7 GPA (out of 4) or equivalent. GPA based on the full course load for the last two academic terms.
The details of the community service and citizenship demonstrated duly supported by testimonials from awarding institutions and others should accompany the application.
Copy of the June 2021 transcript and Proof of Community services must be provided.
6. NOMINATION FOR CISE SPECIAL RECOGNITION AWARD
Nominations are being sought for this special award. A nominee must be 18 years of age or older and be an Alberta resident for at least the past 3 years. A nominee must have exhibited a positive impact on the Indo-Canadian community and have shown excellence in any field of human endeavor. This may include, but is not limited to: (i) Community service, (ii) Research/Innovation, (iii) Performing Arts, and (iv) Sports

Any relevant documents in support of the Award Nomination should be provided.


IMPORTANT NOTES

1. Please fill out a separate application if you are applying for more than one award.
2. Completed application (with supporting documentation) must be received by the Council of India Societies of Edmonton before 5:00 pm, January 9 (Sunday), 2022.
3. The application MUST be submitted ONLINE only (visit the CISE website for the online submission procedure).
DO NOT SUBMIT BOTH ONLINE AND PAPER COPIES. E-mail applications will not be accepted or considered.
4. For any of the above awards, the candidate must be: i) a full-time student, ii) from the East Indian community, iii) a resident of Alberta in the region north of Red Deer. All achievements, grades, certificates, or distinctions must have been obtained in the academic year 2020-2021, except for Academic Excellence and CISE Citizenship Award, where past work will also be considered.
5. Please read the information sheet on the eligibility criteria before completing the application. Furnish copies of transcript/report card and other documents. An incomplete application without proper supporting documents will NOT be considered. DO NOT send originals.
